Using Google Forms in the Classroom

Author: Janice Driscoll

Are you too timid to go beyond using Google Docs?  If you haven't tried Google Forms, you've been missing out!  It's an easy to use part of Google Drive that has as many functions as you have the imagination to think of them!  Once you've tried it, you'll wonder why it's taken you so long to take the plunge!

Here are some easy steps to take to create a Form called a Survey that will help you and your students get to know each other.

Imagine it's the first day of school.  Everyone is glancing around nervously and wondering if they have anything in common with anyone else in the room.  How will they ever get to know who's behind those new faces?  Have them participate in a survey about their birthdays!  Click below to see what that survey might look like:

Easy Peasy!

To create your own survey, follow these easy steps:

1.  In Google Drive, choose the Create button and find Forms.

2.  Click on that and you will see a box asking you to choose a title and theme.  Choose a theme and give your survey a title.

3.  Keep it simple to start with - maybe 5 questions to start.  Look at all the question types you can use!  Text, Paragraph, Multiple Choice, Date, etc.  Enter the question, decide on the type, and choose Add Item to go on to your next question.

4.  Mix it up and try different question types.  Have fun!  When you're done, hit submit and follow the next prompts, and you're done!
