2. Las comidas (Meals)

When traveling to a Spanish-speaking country, you’ll find that meal times are not what you expect:

  • At noon, meals are unheard of. Most people are having a siesta at that time and will enjoy lunch afterward (around 2:00 p.m.).
  • Sometime after lunch, it is very common to have coffee and a pastry or coffee and tortillas with sour cream as a snack.
  • Lunch is typically the most important meal of the day.
  • Dinner is a smaller, less important meal and is not served until around 9:00 p.m.

EXAMPLE

Ya son las cuatro. Vamos por un cafecito. (It’s already 4:00 p.m. Let’s go for a coffee.)
