In today's Gospel we learn about the three magi that followed the star to find the baby Jesus. We learn that the magi were gentiles in search for a savior, and thus represent the entire world outside of the nation of Israel.
Father in heaven we praise and glorify You. We thank you for brining us together for this children's liturgy lesson. Please send us the Holy Spirit, fill us with your peace, love, and wisdom. Help us to hear your message of love to all people. Help us to understand that you came for all of us. Help us to have the courage to share this news with others. We ask this in Jesus's name. Amen.
A long time ago, Jesus was born in a town called Bethlehem.
Some wise men came from far away. They studied the stars.
One night, they saw a new bright star in the sky.
They knew it was a sign that a special King had been born.
So they packed their things and started a long journey.
They followed the star.
When they arrived in the city of Jerusalem, they asked,
“Where is the new King? We saw His star and we want to worship Him.”
King Herod heard this, and he became worried.
He didn’t want anyone else to be called king.
Herod asked the teachers and leaders,
“Where will the special King be born?”
They said, “In Bethlehem.”
Herod told the wise men,
“Go find the child. Then come back and tell me where He is.”
The wise men left, and the star appeared again.
It led them right to the place where Jesus was.
The wise men were so happy!
When they saw Jesus with His mother Mary,
they bowed down and worshipped Him.
Then they gave Jesus special gifts:
Gold
Frankincense
Myrrh
That night, God warned the wise men in a dream not to go back to Herod.
So the wise men went home a different way.
