Children's Liturgy Series: The Ascension of the Lord (Cycle C)

In today's Gospel we learn about Jesus' message to make disciples of all nations before ascending to Heaven.

Father in Heaven, we praise and glorify you. We thank you for bringing us together for this Children's Liturgy lesson.  Please send us the Holy Spirit and fill us with peace, love and wisdom.  Help us to understand the message you have for us today and be able to apply it in our own lives.  We ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Jesus said to his disciples:“Thus it is written that the Christ would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day and that repentance, for the forgiveness of sins, would be preached in his name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. And behold I am sending the promise of my Father upon you; but stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.” 

Then he led them out as far as Bethany, raised his hands, and blessed them. As he blessed them he parted from them and was taken up to heaven. They did him homage and then returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and they were continually in the temple praising God.

What did Jesus say had come true?
That He had to suffer, die, and rise from the dead, just like the Scriptures said.


What job did Jesus give to His disciples?
He told them to tell everyone about Him and how people can be forgiven.


Where did Jesus go after He blessed His disciples?
Jesus was taken up to heaven.


How did the disciples feel after Jesus went to heaven?
They were filled with joy and praised God.


What can we learn from this story?
That Jesus keeps His promises, and we should share His love and joy with people of all nations.

Dear Jesus,
Thank you for showing us by your example on earth on how to live. Help us to have the courage to glorify God by loving others with patience and kindness like you did. We ask this in your name. Amen.
