In today's Gospel we learn about how Jesus appeared to his disciples after his death, when they were hiding behind locked doors in fear for the Romans and other persecutors. We learn about how he filled them with peace and reconciliaton through the Holy Spirit.
Father in Heaven we praise and glorify you. We thank you for bringing us together for this Children's Liturgy lesson. Please send us the Holy Spirit. Fill us with peace, love, and wisdom. Help us to understand the message you have for us today and give us the courage to live it out in our daily lives. We ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.” When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.”
