Children's Liturgy Series: Feast of the most Holy Trinity (A)

Author: Joyce Bott

Introduction

In today's Gospel, we learn about how God reveals himself to us in the three persons of the Holy Trinity (that is three persons in one God): God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

Opening Prayer

Father in Heaven, we praise and glorify you. We thank you for bringing us together for this Children's Liturgy lesson. Please bless everyone here today, and send us the Holy Spirit, so we can hear and understand the message you have for us today. Help us to understand what happens when we are baptized, and how you become present in our lives through this sacrament. We pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.

Gospel (Jn 3:16-18)

God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

Reflection

Ask: Who are the people in your life who love you? How do they show you that they love you? (Accept all reasonable answers.)

Say: God our Father made us out of love. His Son, Jesus, brings us God’s love. In today’s Gospel, we hear how God the Father showed his great love for us.

Ask: What gift did God the Father give the world? (his only Son, Jesus Christ) Say: God showed us his love by sending his Son, Jesus, to save the world. God is always with us.

Ask: When are some times that you’ve experienced God’s love? (Accept reasonable responses.)

Say: During good times and hard times, we can remember how much God loves us—so much that he sent Jesus to give us eternal life.

Say: Let’s take a moment to sit quietly and notice God’s love. (Give children time to sit quietly.)

Say: Now let’s slowly and prayerfully share a sign of peace with one another.
Close by praying the Glory be to the Father.

Closing Prayer

Father in Heaven, thank you for teaching us about the Holy Trinity. Please bless us and ignite the Holy Spirt in our hearts so we can have the right words and actions to bring peace to our family and friends in times of need. We ask this in Jesus' name. Amen.
