In today's Gospel we learn about St. Joseph and his role in protecting the baby Jesus and Mary from from King Herod's plans to harm Jesus. He leads them safely to Egypt.
Father in Heaven, we praise and glorify you. We thank you for bringing us together to learn about the Holy Family. Please send us the Holy Spirit. Fill our hearts with peace, love and wisdom. Help us to appreciate the role of St. Joseph in his obedience and trust in God, and to remember to ask him to intercede for us and guide us in times where we feel lost or unsafe. We ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
After the Wise Men left, Mary and Joseph were taking care of baby Jesus.
That night, Joseph had a dream.
In the dream, an angel from God spoke to Joseph.
The angel said,
“Get up! Take Mary and baby Jesus and go to Egypt.
Stay there until I tell you to come back.
King Herod wants to hurt the child.”
Joseph woke up right away.
He listened to God.
So Joseph and Mary packed quickly.
They took baby Jesus and left during the night.
They travelled to Egypt to keep Jesus safe.
They stayed there until King Herod was gone.
Then it was safe to return home.
This happened because God was keeping His promise and protecting Jesus.
