In today's Gospel story we learn about Jesus and how he helps some fishermen who decide to leave everything and follow him.
Father in Heaven we praise and glorify you. We thank you for bringing us together for this Children's Liturgy lesson. Please send us the Holy Spirit. Fill us with peace, love and wisdom, so we can hear and understand the message you have for us today. Help us to have the courage of Peter, James and John who decide to follow Jesus.
One day, Jesus was standing by a lake. Many people were around Him, listening to Him teach about God. Jesus saw two boats by the shore. The fishermen had left them and were washing their nets. Jesus got into one of the boats, which belonged to Simon (Peter), and asked him to push it out a little from the shore. Jesus sat down and taught the people from the boat.
When He finished speaking, He said to Simon, 'Put out into deep water and let down the nets for a catch.' Simon answered, 'Master, we have worked hard all night and haven't caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.' When they did, they caught so many fish that their nets began to break! They called their friends in the other boat to come and help them. Both boats were so full of fish that they began to sink.
When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus' knees and said, 'Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!' For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken. Then Jesus said to Simon, 'Don't be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.' So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything, and followed Him.
