Children's Liturgy Series: 1st Sunday of Advent (Cycle C)

In today's Gospel, Jesus teaches us to be prepared for when he comes again, to not be afraid, and to trust in God's love and mercy.

Father in Heaven, we praise and glorify you. We thank you for bringing us together for this Children's Liturgy lesson.  Please send us the Holy Spirit. Fill us with peace, love and wisdom.  Help us to always be prepared for you, through prayer, good works and treating others with kindness. We ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Jesus said to his disciples:“There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars, and on earth nations will be in dismay, perplexed by the roaring of the sea and the waves. People will die of fright in anticipation of what is coming upon the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. But when these signs begin to happen, stand erect and raise your heads because your redemption is at hand.

What does Jesus say will happen when He comes again:

• Jesus talks about signs in the sun, moon, and stars.
• People might be scared, but Jesus tells us not to be afraid.
• Jesus will come back in a cloud with power and glory.
• When we see these signs, we should be happy because Jesus is coming to save us.

• What are some signs we see in the sky?
• How do you feel when you see something amazing in the sky?
• Why do you think Jesus tells us not to be afraid?
• How can we be ready for Jesus' return?

Father in Heaven, thank you for your promise of returning.  Help us to have peace and love in our hearts in anticipation of your return. We ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
