Students will learn about the property of density. Students will learn the steps in the process to calculate density.

Density is a measurement of how much matter is packed into a certain volume of a substance.
The density of a substance mostly stays the same. For this reason, knowing the density of an object may give you a clue as to what the object is made of.
Density is also useful for predicting if something will sink or float in water.
Materials with a density greater than water sink in water.
Materials with a density less than water float in water.
**Corn oil, with a density of only 0.93g/cm3, floats in water.
*Science Alert! The density of a material changes with temperature. Ice (0.9g/cm3), for example, is less dense than liquid water (1.0g/cm3 ). For most other materials, density increases as temperature decreases.
